Practice Information

Appointment System & Waiting Times

Maroochy Waters Medical Practice runs by an appointment system, however we do keep appointments available for emergencies.

You can make an appointment with a doctor by phoning the surgery. Appointments are made at 15 minute intervals so you can normally expect to spend that time with your doctor however if you think that you may require a longer appointment please advise reception staff at the time of booking.

Nobody likes to be kept waiting however, due to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances there may be waiting periods. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to our patients when we are behind with our appointments. Please feel free to phone our surgery to check if your doctor is experiencing any unforeseen delays.

Home Visits

We are pleased to offer home visits for urgent cases for regular patients whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery.  They are generally done at the end of the attending Doctor’s day.  A fee will be payable at the conclusion of the home visit.

After Hours Services

Maroochy Waters Medical Practice is supported by National Home Doctor Service for all after hour’s visits.  If you require medical attention after hours, please phone National Home Doctor Service on 13 SICK (137425).  A full report on these visits is forwarded directly to your regular doctor to ensure continuity of care.  If you have any further questions about this service please talk to any of our friendly staff.

Repeat Prescriptions & Referrals

In order to monitor your health and fulfil our ethical and legal responsibilities, is it a REQUIREMENT that you attend the Practice for a consultation with your Doctor (or if your usual doctor is not available, one of the other Doctors of our Practice) in order to receive further prescriptions for your medications or ongoing referrals.

Receiving Results

It is the policy of this practice to have all patients return for a consultation to obtain their test results.  A nurse may be able to give results to patients over the phone only under special circumstances and this is arranged by your doctor during your consultation.

Reminder System

We have in place a computerised recall system.  You will be asked/requested to attend the surgery for an appointment if your doctor feels this is appropriate.

Being a family practice, a private room can be arranged for changing nappies etc. Please ask our friendly reception staff for further details.

Taxis

We are more than happy to order a taxi for transport to or from the surgery should you require one.

Health Information Brochures

We have a range of brochures for your perusal.  You will find a brochure stand near the water cooler in the reception area.  If the information you require is not available, ask the friendly reception staff for help.  If the information is not immediately on hand they will be happy to order it in for you.

Maroochy Waters Medical Practice takes pride in delivering high quality medical care. Unfortunately, the Medicare rebate only covers a small portion of these costs. Community General Practice is not subsidised by State or Federal Governments unlike the hospital system. We are a locally owned small business, like many other General Practices. The Federal Government have frozen your Medicare rebates or only increased it marginally. The Federal Health Department have lowered our rebates when “bulk billing” patients or they have totally cut item numbers so that practices can no longer absorb the cost of keeping their doors open, and continue to provide quality care.

If you are concerned about these changes, we encourage you to voice your concerns to your Federal Member of Parliament obrien.mp@aph.gov.au

An episode of care fee will apply for treatment room services such as dressings and procedures.

  • Episode of Care or Treatment Room fees will range from $10.00 to $20.00
  • Procedure fees will range from $50.00 for pensioners to $65.00 for non-concession card holders.
  • Procedure Fees for Skin Check will be $50.00 for all patients.**These items are not eligible for Medicare rebate

If you are on a Concession Card or a child 15 years, you may be charged at the concession rate.

DVA Gold Card Holders will continue to be Bulk Billed.

DID NOT ATTEND appointments: If you cannot attend your booked appointment, please cancel or reschedule through HotDoc or by calling the practice. Failure to do so will result in fees.
